Furry friends are welcomed (encouraged!) at Automata. Research has shown that dogs in the workplace not only contribute to a fun and playful work environment but can have a positive impact on people’s mental health and well-being.
That being said, Sally and Lola didn't go through our interview process and the comfort of our fellow Automatrons takes priority, so we need to be mindful to put people before paws when colleagues are allergic, frightened or distracted.
Before you bring your dog to work, please read this policy carefully so you know what's required of you as a dog owner.
Be considerate of your colleagues, and before you bring your dog check with your Manager, team members and the Workplace Team. You never know who might have severe concerns like allergies, mobility issues, or fears, so make sure to have that conversation before bringing your furry friend to the office.
Please also bear in mind that whilst we’re definitely dog people, some of our clients, investors or suppliers might not be, so if you know we have external parties on site and your companion likes to make new friends, it may be best not to have them in the office on those days.
You should also know that we stock doggie treats (nice healthy Wagg ones) and everyone knows where they are - so if your dog has special dietary requirements, you need to make the team aware that they shouldn’t feed them.
Some places are for humans only. Dogs are not allowed in:
Dogs should remain with owners at all times, and be taken out of the building in case of an evacuation. Smaller dogs should be carried down the stairs by their owners.
Please keep your pup on a lead whilst in the main office. This will help Automatrons who are frightened of dogs to feel safer and to ensure your dog doesn’t pop their nose into any no-paw-zones. If you need to step away, please make sure you find an appropriate dog sitter (I’m sure you will have no trouble finding a volunteer 🙋).
You’re welcome to let them off if you’re in an enclosed space like a meeting room if everyone present is comfortable and gives consent. If you aren't sure, it might be worth popping a message on Slack in advance so they don't feel pressured at the moment.
Your dog must be vaccinated, free from illness, regularly wormed and flea treated. 3rd party insurance is essential in case they cause an accident at work, as you, as the pet owner, would be liable (most dog insurance covers this, but you should check).
