This policy sets out how your apprenticeship study time should be planned, agreed, and logged—so you get the time you need, in a way that works for you, your team, and the business.

🎯 Your Entitlement

If you’re on an apprenticeship, you need to spend 20% of your working hours on training and study. This includes things like:

• Attending training sessions and workshops
• On-the-job training (not day-to-day tasks)
• Completing coursework or assignments
• Revising for exams
• Reflecting on your learning

This typically works out as:

• 1 day a week, or
• Around 45–59 study days per year, depending on your course structure/length and holiday allowance taken. The exact number of study days allocated should be outlined in your individual agreement with the training provider.

🧩 How Study Time Can Be Used

Your apprenticeship study time is flexible - but it must be planned in advance and agreed with your manager.

It won’t always look like one day a week. Instead, you and your manager should agree a pattern that fits:

• The structure of your course
• Your learning style
• Your team’s needs and business priorities
